A Guest lecture on “Wildlife toxicology”
was organized by the Department of Zoology on 22 January, 2009 by Prof.
P.P.Bakre, Dean, Life Sciences, Gyan Vihar Universe, Jaipur for the
students of M.Sc. and M.Phil.(Life Sciences).Prof.Bakre started the
lecture with wonderful real pictures showing extensive human
interference in protected areas like Sancturies and National parks
resulting in unexplained extinction and early death of many wild
animals.
The reason for these consequences was
suggested as biomagnification of toxicants introduced in to their
environment through pesticide spray, harmful gases and particulate
matter.
Prof. Bakre also discussed how newly
developed farming techniques are one of the important cause of decline
in the number of wild-life species.Further he explained the effect of
different toxicants on the reproductive behaviour of animals.
The students of the Department were
highly enriched by the valuable lecture of Prof. Bakre. |
