Jugaad to Jhakkas: Where Entrepreneurship Meets Old Newspapers

Students of IIIM Jaipur experienced entrepreneurship in its most practical form during a hands-on classroom activity, “Jugaad to Jhakkas”, held as part of their Entrepreneurship course.

Before the session, students analysed real customer comments from social media for two products of their choice, identifying what users appreciate, dislike and want. In class, they formed teams of three, discussed their insights and selected one product to develop. Their only resource was a pile of old newspapers, with no preparation time.

As they began building, some teams pivoted from their original idea, reflecting how real startups adapt when assumptions meet reality. Each team then created a paper MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and pitched it to the class on the spot.

The ideas ranged from a car to sunscreen to footwear, showcasing creativity, quick thinking and customer-focused problem solving. The activity reinforced a key entrepreneurial lesson: innovation begins with customer insight, not resources, and the ability to pivot is as valuable as the idea itself.
